Fiverr, Wix, or a Local Las Vegas Web Designer: The Honest Year-One Math

You need a website for your Las Vegas business and you have three realistic paths: a $200 Fiverr gig, a do-it-yourself builder like Wix or Squarespace, or a local professional like me. I obviously have a horse in this race, so I am going to run the honest numbers for all three, including the ones that favor my competitors, because the businesses that pick wrong for their situation end up paying for two of these paths instead of one.

Path one: the $200 to $800 freelancer marketplace site

What you get: a template filled in with your text, usually delivered fast, by someone you will never meet and often never reach again. Year-one cost: a few hundred dollars up front, plus hosting you arrange yourself, plus your time managing a stranger across time zones.

Where it goes wrong: the site is typically built for delivery speed, not for Google. No local SEO, generic structure, stock photos, and nobody accountable when it breaks or gets hacked. The most expensive version of this path is the common one: the marketplace site that never produces a customer, followed eighteen months later by paying a professional to do it properly. I meet that business owner monthly. Sometimes their designer also kept the domain, which becomes a genuinely bad week.

When it is actually the right call: you need a placeholder while testing whether the business idea survives contact with reality, and you are spending money you can afford to write off.

Path two: DIY on Wix, Squarespace, or similar

What you get: genuinely good tools, roughly $20 to $50 a month, and full control. Year-one cost: a few hundred dollars in subscription, plus the honest number nobody counts: your evenings. A presentable DIY site takes most owners 40 to 80 hours to build and dial in. Value your time at whatever your hour is worth and the “free” path usually costs more than mine.

Where it goes wrong: not the design, the findability. Builder sites can rank, but out of the box they mostly do not, and the local SEO work that makes a Las Vegas business visible (structure, speed, service-area targeting, schema, the things covered across our SEO service) is exactly the part DIY owners never get to. A template also does not know that valley customers search by neighborhood; a plumber chasing North Las Vegas jobs and a med spa competing in Summerlin need pages aimed at those exact searches, and no builder writes them for you. The result is the most common website in Las Vegas: a decent-looking site with eleven visitors a month.

When it is actually the right call: hobby projects, side businesses fed entirely by word of mouth, or owners who genuinely enjoy this work and have the hours.

Path three: a local professional

What you get at my studio: a custom, hand-coded site built around how Las Vegas customers actually search, local SEO foundations included, everything owned by you, and a designer with a twenty-year local reputation who answers his own phone. Year-one cost, published openly: $1,500 to $2,500 for most businesses plus $30 to $200 a month depending on plan; the full table is on my pricing page.

Where it goes wrong: hiring the wrong professional. The market has agencies charging $15,000 for what should cost $3,000, and “professionals” who are a reseller wrapped around the same offshore gig work as path one. The vetting matters, which is why I publish the questions to ask on my own site and encourage you to ask them of everyone, me included (start with who owns the domain, who does the work, and what the monthly fee covers).

When it is the right call: the website is supposed to produce customers. That is the whole test. If the site is a brochure for a business fed by referrals, DIY may serve. If you want the phone to ring from people who searched, this is the path built for that.

The year-one math, side by side

Marketplace gig: $500 average all-in, near-zero expected leads, high rebuild risk. DIY: $400 subscription plus 60 hours of your time, leads only if you also learn and execute local SEO. Local professional: $2,000 to $4,500 all-in first year at my pricing, built to rank from launch, with accountability you can drive to. One new customer a month pays for the difference in most Las Vegas service industries, whether you fix air conditioners in Enterprise or run a dental office in Henderson; run your own average job value against that and the decision usually makes itself, in whichever direction it makes it.

If you land on path three, or you are on path one or two and it is not producing, call (702) 608-0002 and talk directly with me, Matt, or request a free quote. I will tell you honestly if what you have can be salvaged; sometimes the answer is genuinely “keep your Wix site, it is fine.”
